Besides attacking people belonging to the Indian community, a Hindu temple was vandalised by pro-Pakistani elements in Leicester
The High Commission of India in London on Monday strongly condemned the violence perpetrated against the Indian community and vandalizing of a Hindu temple in Leicester in the United Kingdom.
“We have strongly condemned the violence perpetrated against the Indian community in Leicester and vandalization of premises and symbols of Hindu religion,” the Indian High Commission said in its statement.
“We have strongly taken up this matter with the UK authorities and have sought immediate action against those involved in these attacks. We call on the authorities to provide protection to the affected people,” the Indian High Commission further added.
On August 28, the cycle of violence was triggered after India won the Asia Cup T20 match against Pakistan. On Sunday, a clash broke out among groups of young men in Leicestershire, according to the police statement.
This comes after various videos and reports have been circulating on social media about Pakistani organised gangs vandalising and terrorising Hindus in the UK`s Leicester City. The incident follows a spate of violence and disorder in the eastern part of the city.
Fifteen people have so far been arrested for involvement in the violence, Leicestershire Police said in a statement. Leicester police said they were investigating the matter of a flag outside a religious place at Melton Road being pulled down.
While calling for peace, Leicester police said, “The impact this disorder is having on our local communities is not acceptable.”
