This incident took place just 10 days after India issued an advisory for non-resident Indians in Canada
India has condemned the hate crime at the Shri Bhagvad Gita Park in Brampton, while calling on Canadian authorities and Peel Police to investigate and prompt action against the perpetrators.
“We condemn the hate crime at the Shri Bhagvad Gita Park in Brampton,” the Indian High Commission in Ottawa said in a statement on Saturday.
Previously known as Troyers Park, it was renamed as Shri Bhagavad Gita Park and unveiled on September 28
The event took place just 10 days after India issued an advisory for Indian nationals and students in Canada to “remain vigilant” in view of a sharp increase in incidents of hate crimes, sectarian violence, and anti-India activities in Canada.”
“The Ministry of External Affairs and our High Commission/Consulates General in Canada have taken up these incidents with the Canadian authorities and requested them to investigate the said crimes and take appropriate action,” the advisory issued by the Ministry of External Affairs for Indian nationals and students from India in Canada, said on September 23.
In that advisory, the Ministry of External Affairs had also expressed its anguish over the Canadian authorities for not taking action against perpetrators of hate crimes.
“The perpetrators of these crimes have not been brought to justice so far in Canada,” the MEA said.
A home to 1.6 million people of Indian origin, Canada witnessed two incidents of attacks on Hindu temples. On September 15, a temple was defaced with anti-India graffiti.
